September was busier than it was big. Disclosed dollars barely moved from August's $8.5M, but the round count jumped to eight across the early-stage betting and gaming companies we track (pre-seed through Series D)—seven of them in prediction markets, none with a disclosed check above $3M.
The money went to the companies sitting between the exchanges and the people trading on them. The larger numbers showed up as valuations: a market maker priced at $90M, and Novig reportedly out raising at $2B.
The month at a glance:
Total disclosed funding: $8.95M across eight rounds (three undisclosed)
Category leader: Prediction markets
Where the money went:
Oddpool ($3M seed). A prediction market data layer for institutions, economists, and policymakers, built by Y Combinator alums Avi Arora and Ritesh Malpani. The raise surfaced alongside the exit—the team is joining Kalshi.
Topdog ($2.5M seed). The month's one round outside prediction markets: real-time, head-to-head skill games for sports fans from the team behind Toast. Boston Seed Capital led, with Raine Group and Bullpen participating, bringing total raised to $4.1M. Players average roughly 25 games a day at about 60 seconds each.
functionSPACE ($1.7M pre-seed). Led by Maven 11 Capital and Blockwall, to price numerical outcomes in prediction markets.
ParlayX ($1.25M pre-seed). Institutional execution and compliance infrastructure for prediction markets, led by Copenhagen-based Dreamcraft Ventures. Four venues onboarded at launch—Kalshi, Polymarket, Limitless, and ProphetX—plus its first 10 market makers, with a formal ProphetX partnership following later in the month.
PredictQ ($500K). A content, tools, and community "expert layer" from RotoGrinders co-founder Cameron MacMillan and DFS veteran Justin Herzig, aimed at the roughly 70% of retail traders who lose money on Kalshi and Polymarket. Closed 20% oversubscribed with about 18 months of runway. BettingStartups Capital is an investor.
Raven (Undisclosed). A strategic round from Coinbase Ventures and CMCC Global at a $90M pre-money valuation—more than triple the $25M mark on the market maker's 2024 seed.
Open Markets (Undisclosed). BetOpenly founder Gino Donati raised outside funding for an institutional liquidity layer and cross-venue execution platform, with the money going to product and an FCM license he expects by year-end.
WagerWire (Undisclosed). A strategic investment from Oddschecker owner FairPlay Sports Media, which will market WagerWire's Wire Markets aggregator across its international audience.
Product and pivots
While the venture money went to plumbing, the exchanges spent September chasing audience. Novig launched its first national brand campaign with Sydney Sweeney, an equity partner, timed to NFL kickoff—then passed Kalshi and Polymarket in US Google search interest and was reported to be raising at up to a $2B valuation, four times its February mark. Prospect Markets signed a definitive agreement with Crypto.com to launch a sports-native prediction platform in the US, ProphetX rolled out Parlay Mode, and 4casters launched a free odds screen spanning sportsbooks and prediction markets.
